Red Kite Learning Trust

A wireless cloud network solution to support student learning across multiple academies.

Red Kite Learning Trust
Education

The Red Kite Learning Trust consists of 3 secondary schools, 9 primary schools, and 1 through-school, serving over 8,000 students and 1,300 staff. The trust required a reliable platform and IT infrastructure to support 1:1 learning through a future-proof cloud network.

As the education landscape increasingly relies on technology, Red Kite Learning Trust needed enhanced network stability to ensure students had consistent and reliable wireless access. The trust’s existing network solution lacked the necessary stability, resulting in a backlog of helpdesk tickets and students losing valuable learning time.

The CloudIQ wireless deployment from Extreme addressed Red Kite Learning Trust’s IT infrastructure challenges, starting with testing at Harrogate Grammar School. Where possible, an Extreme (305c) access point was placed at the centre of each classroom to support the high density of devices (30+ per classroom across the school). The access points were configured to create a coverage cell for each room, minimising cross-channel interference with other rooms.

Following the success of the flagship deployment, Red Kite Learning Trust plans to expand Extreme’s CloudIQ Wireless solution to three more sites in the coming months, with the remaining 9 schools to follow over the next two years.

This will enable advanced learning across all schools, improve staff productivity, and enhance technology ROI.

Ian Hails and David Burns, Head of IT for the Trust, were thrilled with the results.

Net Protocol and Extreme Networks were absolutely ‘instrumental’ in the successful deployment of our CloudIQ Wireless solution. From planning and solution design to organising a PoC, testing the technology, restructuring the VLAN/Scope setup, installing and configuring the APs, and offering seamless aftercare – they went above and beyond in every aspect.
