Cold Call Scammers Use IT Support Tactic

We have had a few reports of an IT Support company called Comantra calling home users to say they have issues on their computer. They say that they are Microsoft partners and that they have been alerted to issues on their PC and would like to remotely connect to take a look.

Once you have let them connect they will use any reason they can find on there to say there is an issue with the PC, then ask for credit card details for the support cost to fix the issue. Once they have your details they go through the motions to look like they are fixing your PC and we have reports of them charging £100 to £200 to do so.

This organisation has no information regarding your computer, they are working on the fact that most homes have a PC connected to the internet. If you are contacted by any company with a similar story (they use different trading names to Comantra) do not let them access your computer and do not give them credit card details.
