Fake AntiVirus warnings seen that you should avoid
We have seen a few occurrences today of an AV software company declaring that your PC has viruses and you should download their software to rectify it. Upon downloading the software you would then install their malicious payload onto your PC.
This does happen and we have seen this before, but usually launched from other random, none specific sites that may have been compromised and had an autoloading link inserted. Today however we have seen it appear during the course of normal browsing, potentially indicating that a more common place site may have had a link to the malware inserted by a malicious party. Without further incidents we cannot tell what site this may be, but we are suggesting that users be extra vigilant over the next few days. The AV software came from the site scannerantispye.com, we suggest you avoid anything that looks to come from that address.
All users that are browsing via a Webwasher have the proactive scanning engine as defence against any download if you were to try to download the software, however prevention is the best defence in this case.
